Books by Jo Ann Williams McClellan
Cemetery records are an excellent source of genealogical information. Often the information from the headstones, such as the individual's birth and death dates, is not available elsewhere. In general, there are no official records of African Americans in Maury County before 1870 unless they were mentioned in a will or an estate settlement. This makes the cemetery records very important for individuals researching their African American ancestors.
Each of the sources of information included in this book; cemetery records, death records, personal interviews, and other database queries helped create a record that was a great challenge, but gratifying to provide to interested genealogists and family historians. Adding death records to the research created a finished product that is very comprehensive.
This book is a must-read for anyone researching African Americans in middle Tennessee.
